This is a very scenic trail of easy to moderate intensity that just about anyone with decent physical fitness can do. We saw several hikers in their 70's (guesstimate) and had 2 in their late 60's with us. However, caution is warranted in places due to the relatively steep grades on the notoriously slick Kauai red dirt (especially if it has rained recently). The trail is easily discernable in virtually every area. However, just know that once you reach the picnic area the trail continues along the right side for another. 5 mile or so to the junction with the other trail at the bridge. It would be helpful to have that area marked a little. If you see what look like raspberries along the trail just know that I ate 4-5 without any adverse effects. If you're looking for waterfalls then bring your binos because you won't be getting close to any on this hike but can see at least 1 in the distance.
One of the easiest and most beautiful hike
Only got up about 1/4 a mile only to find a huge tree blocking the trail. The trail was extremely muddy. Didn't get to see anything pretty. Just a muggy, lush green, muddy hike. We took a large dog out on a field trip through Kauai Humane Society. (highly recommend!) So we couldn't really climb over the fallen tree to continue our hike. Wasted our valuable time.
This hike is great for exercise and some nice views along the way. This is not a hike with a waterfall or postcard view at the end. This hike is not a waste of anyones time. Enjoy
It is one of my favorite places. I feel like the only one there. The bird sounds and the beauty is every where.
