At the grotto site you wind your way through pretty trees up to the grotto proper. Here another dry, bored sounding script is ready while you're attacked by small insects. If you go, you should definitely apply some insect repellent beforehand. There is a beautiful waterfall just after the grotto proper, well worth taking a moment to appreciate.
The guide was boring and not very good. They made us change boats after boarding early. Cannot see any mountains from the interior seats of the overly crowded boat. The fern grotto itself was pretty, but not particularly spectacular. The river is muddy and brown. Even with a discount, definitely not worth it. You're better off renting a kayak!
The grotto is well worth the trip. Very beautiful! The tour guides are knowledgeable and friendly. The tour includes musicians singing and two Hulu dancers. They even give a fun Hulu lesson on the way back!
Unique place. Good for all ages. Nothing super spectacular though.
Overrated tours. It is an quick and easy tour on a boat but nothing else. The Fern Grotto is not worth to take this boat tour. If you are kayaking down the river, then stop by the Fern Grotto. The operators do try the best to entertain tourist with hula dance and songs and that is the best part of the trip, but then you will feel obligate to tip.
This was a disappointment. The trip starts out with a sedate ride up the river towards the grotto. During the ride, a script was read in a dry bored voice. It among other things it tried to draw your attention to a mountain top which was obstructed by trees, so I suspect the script hasn't been updated in many years.
The ride back included some songs and dances by staff. This was easily the most enjoyable part of the trip. All in all, I'd suggest looking elsewhere.
