Very fair prices. Good meat selection. Vegetables are fresh and fair priced. Good selection of milk, bread, and staples.
The produce is of good quality though the selection is limited. The wine is also limited, but every once in a while there is a very pleasant surprise. In terms of cans and dry sundries, there will be some local favorites, take your time and try something new.
The butcher and fresh fish are very limited, (HINT: avoid), but check out the frozen fish freezer, there is always something worth thawing out and experimenting with. They have a small deli and make some ready to eat selections. If you are there for late lunch, I think it is 1 PM when they drop the prices of the bagged lunch food. Their potato slices are totally awesome, they use up my entire day's salt allotment, but what a way to spend it.
A very good selection of various food and home items. Also sells dog and cat food and needs there. People are very friendly and helpful. Some times they will only have one line open when busy but other wise really great.
If you are a tourist and this review isn't more than a year old, give them a try, it can give you just a hint of what the Hasegawa General Store was back in the 60s, get it before it is gone.
I really want to give a 3.5. I have been coming here for years and it pains me to see it slowly declining. This is a local's supermarket. It will seem a bit funny until you get to know it. Kapaa has four, (used to be five), supermarkets on about 2 miles of Kuhio HWY: Foodland, Safeway, Cost-U-Less, Big Save, (Kojima store closed with many of Big Save's problems). Each has their charm but for me, Big Save is awesome because it is an easy walk from my house.
You want something different this is the place to go. They have a little of everything and great prices. Staff are very sweet.
Great location close to most resorts in Kapaa, friendly staff, resonable priced
Three final pluses, they don't use loyalty cards to track what you buy, I have never had to wait behind more than one person to check out and it is much easier to get in and out of that shopping center by car than Safeway.
