Wet and slippery during the winter months, come prepared for mud. You will slip and slide, doing it without traction will end up causing you more frustration.
A beautiful hike, one you should absolutely do when visiting.
Mahalo and namaste
The views on the way up are mostly East facing so this hike makes for incredible sunrise views, although on the backside of the hike (once you get to the top) has a beautiful vista for Sunset as well.
Beautiful views
Amazing trail with great views!
First, parking is located on an off street, though you can park right at bottom of the trail head at 581, but that is a little sketchy not to mention muddy.
Remember that the picnic table and gazebo is not the end of the trail, rather a gateway to the real fun. This hike, while pedestrian, is such a beautiful hike with stunning views, and continues to pay dividends even after the 10th time around.
Rounding out at about 4 miles up and down, this subtracts the scenic and mellow first two miles of the trail starting above the falls.
East Trail - 4 total miles (2 miles up and 2 down) - slower ascent and longer but easier overall.
West Trail - 2 total miles (1 mile up, and 1 down) - A bit harder but shorter
If you want to cut to the chase, the west trail speeds up the descent to the top of sleeping giant. Unlike the trail head near the falls, you begin an uphill climb almost immediately.
